Forêt de Paimpont

Mardi 1er novembre, pas cours...nous avons donc décidé d'aller faire une petite randonnée dans la Forêt de Paimpont à environ 40 km de Rennes....cadre de la légende du Roi Arthur et de Merlin...

Tuesday 1st November, public holiday so no class...we decided to go walking in the Paimpont Forest, about 40 km from Rennes...the forest of the famous legend of King Arthur and Merlin the wizard...

Une copine de l'IGR, Faustine, nous a gentiment envoyé une carte avec un itinéraire de randonnée...

A friend from the Uni, Faustine, was nice enough to send us a map with a route for our walk...

Nous commencons vers l'étang de la Marette...

La fontaine de Jouvence...La légende raconte qu'autrefois, à la date du solstice d'été (21 juin), les enfants étaient présentés aux grands prêtres afin d'être inscrits sur les registres des naissances. Les enfants étaient alors lavés dans l'eau de la fontaine où se déroulait la cérémonie. Les bébés qui n'étaient pas présentés le jour même devaient attendre un an de plus pour être enregistrés et donc rajeunissaient d'une année...d'où le nom de la fontaine!!!

The Fountain of Youth...the legend tells that once upon a time, when summer starts (21st June), the children were introduced to the priests in order to be registered in the Birth Register. The children were then washed in the fountain water where the ceremony was taking place. The babies who were not introduced on that very day had to wait for one more year to be registered and were then one year younger...that's where the fountain got its name from!!!

Le tombeau de Merlin...Le célèbre enchanteur reposerait en ce lieu.Ce sont en réalité les vestiges d'une allée couverte datant de 3000 à 2000 avant l'an 0.
Merlin's grave...The legend says the famous wizard rests in peace there. It is actually the ruins from an old stone way dating back to 3000 to 2000 years before the year 0.

La plupart du chemin se fait dans les bois, et il faut vraiment être vigilant pour ne pas se perdre et suivre le balisage jaune. En chemin, nous avons du opter pour un autre itinéraire improvisé car nous nous sommes trouvées nez à nez avec un molosse qui gardait le passage et auquel nous avons préféré ne pas faire front!!!!! Retour donc sur la route pour rejoindre l'étang à pied, ce qui nous a un peu rallongé et nous pensons avoir fait environ 15 km...pas mal comme entraînement pour la randonnée de dimanche prochain (30 km à allure sportive, je fais déjà, des cauchemars!!!!)...

Most of the walk is through the woods, and you have to be really careful in order not to get lost and to follow the yellow marks. Halfway through, we had to take another improvised way as we found ourselves face to face with a giant dog which was guarding its owners' property and we prefered not to confront him...So we went back to the road to get back to the pond, and had our walk lengthened to about 15 km instead of 12....not too bad a training before next Sunday walk (30 km, I'm already having nightmares about it!!!)

Je suis super impressionnée par ta rando de 30km et je découvre donc ton blog avec plaisir...J'aime moi aussi les randos,
